In a press conference, the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) and the Organizing Committee of PERUMIN 37 officially launched a new edition of PERUMIN, the leading mining convention in Latin America and the world. The convention, which celebrates its 70th anniversary, will be held under the slogan "Together for more opportunities and well-being for all," emphasizing the need to unite as Peruvians to effectively harness the country's resources to promote its prosperity.
Jimena Sologuren, the president of PERUMIN 37, confirmed that the event will take place from September 22 to 26, 2025, at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa, with Germany as partner country. She also mentioned that there will be new platforms to deal exclusively and in depth with challenging global issues. These platforms include the Energy Summit, Water Summit, and Diversity and Inclusion Summit, where the mining industry's experience in the efficient use of essential resources for the population will be discussed, as well as the importance of minerals in the global challenge of energy transition.
On the other hand, the Young Professionals Program will be implemented. This program is aimed at college graduates who are leading high-impact formal mining-related initiatives in the public-private sector. Scholarships will be awarded to 37 of them to attend the Mining Convention. This program aims to recognize new mining leaders who are committed to the country's development.
"We are already working on it. We have launched the call for technical papers for the Technology, Innovation, and Sustainability Forum (TIS Forum); we are already preparing EXTEMIN, which will have over 1,400 stands. Additionally, programs such as the PERUMIN Inspira Award, for social enterprises; PERUMIN Hub, for innovators; and the National School Mining Award, for students from public and private schools throughout Peru, are already underway," explained Sologuren.
PERUMIN Is Part of Arequipa’s Tradition
The launch of PERUMIN 37 took place during the anniversary week of Arequipa, a city that is celebrating its 484th anniversary.
"PERUMIN has become a tradition in Arequipa. International delegations, global mining leaders, national and foreign entrepreneurs, professionals from various fields, students, and authorities from all regions will attend, not only to contribute and learn but also to experience the city’s historical splendor, unique architecture, natural landscape, incomparable cuisine, and above all, its human warmth," underscored IIMP Director Tomás Gonzales.
The press conference was attended by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, who highlighted the importance of PERUMIN as a platform that positions Peru as a mining country, with the potential to enable the development of new mining projects. "In Peru, we have a portfolio of 51 mining projects in 18 regions, with an investment of more than US$ 54.556 billion, which will help close historical gaps in the country and improve the quality of life for millions of Peruvians," the Minister stressed.
The mayor of Arequipa, Víctor Hugo Rivera, and the president of the Arequipa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Julio Cáceres, also attended the event and reiterated the importance of PERUMIN for Arequipa, as it promotes commerce and serves as an opportunity to showcase the city's qualities to the world. They also highlighted the region's leadership in the production of important minerals such as copper and molybdenum.
Since 1954, the PERUMIN Mining Convention has established itself as a meeting point for the global mining industry, attracting over 65,000 attendees, including national and regional government authorities, international delegations, entrepreneurs from various corners of the world, mining and related industry workers, academics, and more. EVENT "RUMBO A PERUMIN CENTRAL 2024" ANNOUNCED TO BE HELD IN LIMA IN OCTOBER
The Organizing Committee of PERUMIN 37 and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) announce the upcoming event "Rumbo a PERUMIN Central 2024", which will be held in Lima on October 29 and 30, at the IIMP headquarters.
At the event, the results of the report on the impact of illegal mining in Peru, a report prepared by IIMP in partnership with Videnza, will be presented, along with proposals to address this issue, which affects the country's development. Additionally, issues related to ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria will be discussed.
It is worth noting that the Rumbo a PERUMIN work agenda includes activities to analyze the socio-economic situation of the country's regions in order to propose development mechanisms based on the opportunities offered by mining.
In 2024, Rumbo a PERUMIN has developed a work agenda in Cajamarca and will soon hold meetings in Áncash and Apurímac. For 2025, it plans to develop decentralized platforms in regions of the southern coast, northern Peru, and Arequipa.
