Renzo Macher, Vice President of Projects and Innovation at Compañía de Minas Buenaventura, said that they expect to produce the first gold bar in October.
Renzo Macher, vice president of projects and innovation at Compañía de Minas Buenaventura, stated that the San Gabriel project in Moquegua is now 80% complete. He estimated that construction will be finished no later than August of this year.
“San Gabriel is already 80% built. We expect to finish construction between July and August. We need to begin the process to obtain the operation permit, so we plan to submit the documents by mid-July,” he said while participating as a panelist at the event “Rumbo a PERUMIN: Mining for the Development of Moquegua.”
Based on that timeline, Macher said that the company’s goal is to secure an operation permit by October. San Gabriel is an underground gold and silver mining project located in the district of Ichuña, in the province of Sánchez Cerro, Moquegua.
“The goal is to obtain the operation permit by October. All our efforts are focused on a successful commissioning process so that we can produce the first gold bar around October,” he said at the event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
Relationship with Local Communities
Macher went on to highlight the company’s strong relationship with local communities, noting that there have been no work stoppages to date. He emphasized that this strong relationship has been in place for 25 years, ever since Compañía de Minas Buenaventura began exploration of the project.
“We work closely with the community. We’ve trained 400 people to fill 200 jobs. We continue to work with many local suppliers who are supporting us in this major effort. I believe we have an excellent relationship that has allowed us to reach this point without major setbacks,” he stated at the IIMP event.
