Social startups that promote the bridging of social and economic gaps, focused on the nine Sustainable Development Goals selected for this year, may participate.
The Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) has launched the call for entries for the sixth edition of the PERUMIN Inspira Award—the mining industry’s leading recognition of high-impact social startups that contribute to sustainable development in Peru’s highlands and jungle regions.
Managed by Kunan, the PERUMIN Inspira Award offers social entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase their initiatives and gain a meaningful, transformative experience that supports their professional growth. This year, the two top social startups will be recognized in the 'High-Impact Startup' category.
“With this edition, we aim to continue supporting those who dare to take action with a sustainable approach and a focus on the common good. Our goal is to recognize and support leaders of innovative, scalable, and sustainable ventures that help close social and economic gaps in communities and their surrounding areas,” said Mariana Abugattás, president of PERUMIN Inspira.
Projects and Applications
According to the contest rules, participating social startups must already be operational and have an impact in Peru’s highlands (starting at 500 meters above sea level) or jungle regions. They must also address one or more of the nine United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) selected for this edition.
Moreover, they must have been operating for at least six months and present an innovative business model with the potential for scalability and self-sustainability that addresses the identified problem.
This year, each winning social startup will receive S/ 15,000 in seed capital, 12 weeks of digital technical support from Wichay Continental: Hub for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, mentorship sessions provided by KAMAN Business Incubator at Universidad Católica San Pablo, ten hours of legal counseling from Benites, Vargas & Ugaz Abogados, and exposure of the winning experiences through the international CIP-CGIAR network, which includes various global research centers, thanks to the International Potato Center.
