The program, which brings together various mining companies, seeks to foster innovation and collaboration in mining by developing solutions to the sector's challenges.
PERUMIN Hub, a program that seeks solutions to the challenges of the mining industry through collaborative innovation, held a virtual panel discussion with leaders from prominent mining companies to kick off its fourth edition. This edition will take place as part of PERUMIN 37, an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
Rafael Estrada, president of PERUMIN Hub, emphasized that the initiative has become a key platform for promoting and accelerating innovation in the national mining industry.
“Through a collaborative approach, we continue building bridges between companies and national and international innovation ecosystems, generating tangible impacts in the development of solutions,” he told the mining industry leaders gathered at the event.
For her part, Jimena Sologuren, president of PERUMIN 37, emphasized that the mining industry recognizes the importance of challenges related to sustainability, efficiency, climate change, and a society that increasingly expects more from mining. For this reason, she stressed the need for collaboration among companies, academia, the government, and communities.
“PERUMIN Hub is working on that, and the good news is that we have the talent, technology, commitment, and will to overcome all these challenges. Innovation in mining is not only about new technologies, but also about changing how we think and work together—and this is where collaboration becomes key,” she said.
This year, the thematic areas that framed the challenges to be prioritized by the industry were Circular and Regenerative Mining, Smart Mining, and New Horizons in Mining.
Among the companies that took part in the discussion and reaffirmed their commitment to finding innovative and sustainable solutions for the future of the industry were Antamina, Minera Bateas, Compañía de Minas Buenaventura, Minera Chinalco, Gold Fields, Hudbay Minerals, Nexa Resources, Pan American Silver, Compañía Minera Poderosa, Quilla Resources, and Southern Peaks Mining. Also present were the PERUMIN Hub Technical Committee and Jimena Sologuren, president of PERUMIN 37.
About PERUMIN Hub
PERUMIN Hub, the country’s leading open innovation program in the mining industry, was born from the alliance between the IIMP and the Peruvian Mining Innovation Hub—two institutions seeking to position mining as an innovative sector by facilitating, growing, consolidating, and commercially launching innovations that respond to industry challenges.
To date, 23 mining companies have participated. A network of 90 partners in 13 countries has been established, facilitating the connection between innovators and companies. A total of 151 innovations has been showcased over the years. In addition, more than 80 networking meetings have been held, and seven projects that have reached the pilot testing phase.
The program’s core events include the “Innovations That Take Off” competition, held during the PERUMIN 37 mining convention, and “Young People Who Bring About Transformation,” which will take place as part of PERUMIN Jóvenes in 2026. These events aim to build a portfolio of standout innovations, supported and monitored by the Hub to ensure continued visibility and engagement between innovators and companies.
