This important event was held in Las Vegas, the United States, from September 24 to 26.
Within the framework of MINExpo 2024, one of the world’s most important mining events held in Las Vegas, the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Mines, organized the highly anticipated Peru Day. This event highlighted the strengths and opportunities that Peruvian mining offers to entrepreneurs, investors, and authorities from different parts of the world.
Gustavo De Vinatea, General Manager of the IIMP, emphasized the importance of promoting our country’s mineral wealth. “Peru is a mining country par excellence. Today, we continue to be a key pillar for the development of our country, thanks to the production of strategic minerals that are essential for the transition to a green economy. We produce 8 of the 17 essential minerals for this transformation, positioning us as a relevant player in the global economy,” he noted during his welcome remarks.
He also pointed out that the mining sector in Peru generates over 235,000 jobs, accounts for 65% of exports, and contributes 11% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). This context places the country in a key global position, especially in the context of the energy transition and global decarbonization.
Peru Day brought together more than 400 attendees, including industry leaders, international investors, and government officials, as well as representatives from institutions such as PromPerú and the American Chamber of Commerce of Peru (AmCham). The event featured personalities like Juan Miguel Miranda, Consul General of Peru in the United States; Jorge Pardo, Senior Commercial Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Peru; Jimena Sologuren, President of PERUMIN 37; and Rómulo Mucho, Minister of Energy and Mines, who participated virtually. They all emphasized the fundamental role of mining in the country's development.
The IIMP’s participation in this important mining event was the result of an agreement signed with the U.S. National Mining Association, where, for the first time, the institution had its own space, underscoring the growing relevance of the Peruvian mining sector on the international stage.
Through such participations, the IIMP reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and the promotion of responsible mining in Peru, with the aim of strengthening the country's image as a leader in the mining sector and attracting investments that benefit Peruvian society.
