Lima, MARCH 25 2025 Jorge Montero: proEXPLO and PERUMIN Keep Peru Relevant as a Mining Country

The Minister of Energy and Mines invited foreign mining companies to operate in Peru with the same quality standards as in their home countries.

In a recent interview on the Diálogos Mineros program of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), Jorge Montero, Minister of Energy and Mines, highlighted the international significance of two upcoming mining events to be held in Peru: proEXPLO 2025, in May, and PERUMIN 37, in September. Both events are organized by the IIMP.

The minister emphasized the strategic importance of these events in maintaining Peru’s position as a global leader in mining. He stressed that these events serve as a valuable platform to position our country as an attractive destination for high-quality mining investment. According to Montero, "these events in Peru are of the utmost importance because they keep us visible as a mining country among the nations of the world," pointing out that Peru remains one of the world’s leading mining powerhouses.

"Peru is an open and democratic country that seeks to attract quality investments—in other words, companies with high standards of governance that respect Peru’s unique context as a megacultural and megadiverse nation," he stated on the IIMP program.

Montero then took the opportunity to invite major mining corporations to operate in Peru under the same principles of responsibility and quality they would apply in their home countries.

“We invite all major mining corporations to work in Peru as they would in their countries of origin. No more, no less—with the same quality in operations, closure, and labor standards,” he added.

More Investment

The head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines also emphasized that the country's commitment to providing a favorable environment for investments that contribute to the sustainable development of mining, one of the most important industries for the Peruvian economy. "You will always be welcome in Peru, a country that aspires to be as open, democratic, and transparent as possible for these investments,” he concluded.

proEXPLO is a convention of prospectors and mining explorers that will take place at the Lima Convention Center from May 5 to 7. The event will feature keynote lectures by national and international speakers, short courses, and visits to mining sites. Meanwhile, PERUMIN 37 will take place at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa from September 22 to 26.
