Lima, SEPTEMBER 19 2024 Governor Rohel Sanchez Says Arequipa is the Center of the Mining Corridor

The regional authority highlights PERUMIN’s potential for innovation and technology, as well as for attracting investment to the region.

During the official launch of PERUMIN 37, an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), the regional governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez, highlighted the strategic importance of his region in the national mining context, noting that Arequipa has established itself as the center of the southern Peruvian mining corridor.

"We are promoting PERUMIN 37 because Arequipa is at the heart of the mining corridor. Our region hosts various mining operations, some in production and others in development. This event is crucial for showcasing our investment potential, and each edition generates a significant economic impact," said Sánchez.

He also emphasized the relevance of PERUMIN as a driver of investment, technology, and innovation not only for mining but for the economy in general.

According to the governor, the last edition of PERUMIN generated approximately S/120 million in revenue, with 65,000 visitors, stimulating sectors such as tourism, hospitality, gastronomy, and commerce.

In his speech, Sánchez also announced important measures to strengthen regional management and maximize the opportunities offered by the mining sector. Among these, he highlighted the decision to "revitalize the management of Cerro Juli," which has been the historic venue of PERUMIN in Arequipa.

The governor explained that, as part of this renewal, a regional development fund is being established with two lines of intervention: the first aimed at managing the Business Center, and the second focused on generating and managing a seed capital fund for entrepreneurs and the development of new technologies.

"This fund will be managed by a team that will include two representatives from the regional government, two from the Arequipa Chamber of Commerce, one from the Users’ Board, one from the Agricultural Society, and one from the IIMP," he detailed.

It is worth noting that PERUMIN 37, the leading mining convention in Latin America and the world, will be held in the city of Arequipa from September 22 to 26, 2025.
