The cooperation agreement with the German government will strengthen the focus on a modern and responsible mining industry that contributes to sustainable development.
An important alliance has been forged for the benefit of the mining industry. The Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) has chosen Germany as its partner country for PERUMIN 37, the leading mining conference in Latin America and the world which will be held in Arequipa from September 22 to 26, 2025.
“Germany is a strategic partner for Peruvian mining, and we are confident that it will play a leading role in the development of PERUMIN. Our mining convention will be the ideal platform to share knowledge and present the investment opportunities that Peru offers to the world," said Jimena Sologuren, president of PERUMIN 37.
She also highlighted Germany's contribution to the global mining value chain and the technological advances that contribute to the sustainability of the industry, always prioritizing environmental protection, efficient use of resources, and productivity with high safety standards.
“We look forward to working with Germany to promote the common vision of responsible and sustainable mining. We are confident that this agreement will significantly contribute to the exchange of knowledge and experiences among our professionals, as well as foster integration between our countries. Both Germany and Peru have much to offer to the global industry," Sologuren added.
It is worth noting that Germany, represented in our country by Ambassador Sabine Bloch, is developing the exploration of critical minerals, which are key for energy transition technologies. This effort is being promoted both within its territory and through trade agreements with other countries to seek alternative energy sources.
Additionally, the European country is working on recycling technologies to recover metals from discarded products, thereby reducing its dependence on new mines. It also stands out for its policies promoting social and environmental responsibility practices, technological innovation, and collaboration to foster research and development.
Germany is currently the largest economy in the European Union (EU) and the fourth largest in the world. It is also one of the top three destinations for our country's copper exports.
