Ambassador Highlights Peru's Role as a Partner in Germany's and Europe's Energy Transition.
"Peru is a strategic ally for the industrial development of Germany." This was affirmed by the European country's ambassador to Peru, Sabine Bloch, during the launch of PERUMIN 37, which took place as part of “Mining Thursday”, an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
During her participation in the event, which was attended by the governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez, and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, the German ambassador reaffirmed her government's participation as a “Partner Country” in the organization of PERUMIN 37, adding that "Peru is a key partner for Germany—due to its role as a supplier of critical minerals—and a natural ally. The German government is in the process of transforming its energy supply, moving away from traditional sources such as fossil and nuclear fuels towards renewable and sustainable energies. We believe that Peru will play an important role in the energy transition process, not only for Germany but for Europe and the world," said Bloch.
Darío Zegarra, president of the IIMP, expressed his gratitude to Germany for its commitment and underscored the global expectations for Peruvian mining, a key supplier of critical minerals that support the transition to a green economy. "It is a great honor for Peru that a global power like Germany views us as a strategic partner in its industrial development."
"Our mining sector is vital to the production of these minerals, but we need all key stakeholders in our country's development to do their part so this opportunity can translate into public investment, infrastructure, jobs, family income, and more. This is our vision for PERUMIN 37: to foster greater cohesion in building the Peru we all aspire to," said Zegarra, stressing the importance of Peru capitalizing on this global context for the benefit of its economy and people.
Updates on PERUMIN 37
At the launch of PERUMIN 37 in Lima, the president of the Organizing Committee, Jimena Sologuren, announced that the event will feature new workspaces to address global challenges exclusively and in-depth. These include the Energy Summit, the Water Summit, and the Diversity and Inclusion Summit, where the mining industry's experience in the efficient use of resources essential to the population will be discussed, as well as the importance of minerals in the global challenge of the energy transition.
Additionally, there will be new platforms for dialogue with key stakeholders, such as Future Mining, which will offer insights into technological development and innovation applied to global mining. This will be complemented by the Regional Governors Program, a space for analysis and debate on the importance of connectivity and the development of infrastructure and energy in the regions.
This new edition expects more than 60,000 attendees, including industry leaders, academics, government authorities, and international representatives. For more information about the event, please visit the official PERUMIN 37 website: https://perumin.com/perumin37/public/es.
