Educational institutions and teacher advisors of the winning projects will also receive cash prizes and technological equipment. Registration is open until June 27.
The Organizing Committee of the PERUMIN 37 Mining Convention, with support from the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), is promoting the National School Mining Award (PNME), aimed at students from public and private schools across the country. As part of the contest incentives, two full scholarships to a technical degree program at the Tecsup Institute of Higher Education will be awarded.
The contest is divided into four categories based on participants’ grade levels: Story Writing (1st to 3rd grade of primary school); Theater (4th to 6th grade of primary school); Model Building (1st to 3rd grade of secondary school); and Social and Environmental Responsibility in Action (4th to 5th grade of secondary school). Students, accompanied by a teacher advisor, must submit a project on a mining-related topic, in the format corresponding to their category.
Tomás Gonzáles, president of the PNME, emphasized that the goal of the contest is to promote students’ interest in mining in Peru. “We are thrilled to receive the entries and see the creativity and effort of students in learning more about the sector and its contribution to the country’s economic and social development,” he told the IIMP.
Students Can Win Scholarships and Technological Equipment
Students who place first and second in the Social and Environmental Responsibility in Action category will receive a special prize: a full scholarship to a two- or three-year technical program courtesy of Tecsup. This applies to all campuses: Lima, Trujillo, Arequipa—or the distance learning program.
In addition, the top three winners in each category will receive a check for 5,000 soles and a trophy for their educational institution, along with a laptop for both the teacher advisor and the student.
Second place in each category will receive a check for 4,000 soles and a trophy for the school, along with a notebook for both the teacher and the student. Third place will receive 3,000 soles and a trophy for the school, as well as a tablet for both the teacher and the student. The video with the most views on PNME’s social media will also receive a special prize: 2,000 soles for the institution and a tablet for the participants (teacher and student).
If the winners do not reside in Arequipa, round-trip transportation, meals, and accommodation will be provided for the team members (student, teacher, and principal), as well as one family member of the student, to attend the PERUMIN 37 Mining Convention, where the award ceremony will be held during the event’s closing session on September 26.
