Lima, FEBRUARY 22 2024 According to Darío Zegarra, 532 work for taxes projects were delivered for over S/ 7.5 billion

The president of Aloxi highlighted the progress of the Oxl mechanism. He emphasized that the government's processes for granting permits should be more predictable.

Darío Zegarra, president of the Alliance for Works for Taxes (Aloxi), highlighted the achievements and challenges faced within the framework of public-private cooperation. In this regard, he emphasized that 532 projects worth more than S/ 7.5 billion have been carried out under this mechanism. He added that this figure reflects the result of joint work involving eight ministries, 18 regional governments, and over 200 municipalities.

During the Heading to PERUMIN: Towards Economic Recovery conference, he underscored the importance of the cooperation between the business sector and the government to expedite processes and create predictability. He also highlighted the existence of executive committees with various ministries to refine the Works for Taxes (OxI) mechanism.

“We have executive committees with different ministries, which we highly value because they have not only facilitated the implementation of projects in the pipeline but also identified common problems,” he commented.

Additionally, Zegarra pointed out that collaboration not only involves the implementation of specific projects but also the generation of evidence and proposals for public policies that improve over time.

Similarly, the president of Aloxi mentioned that the Works for Taxes mechanism is not perfect but affirmed that it has improved over time.

Project Implementation

At another point, Zegarra cited a study showing that of nine ministries evaluated, five had delays of more than 1,000 days in the implementation of projects. For regional governments, there are delays in 10 out of 23.

“There is a challenge there, and we believe that we should not only think about specific projects but also think about collaboration to find a way to make the process more predictable and create synergies," he added.

Zegarra emphasized the need to anticipate problems in mining territories and advocated for effective collaboration between the private and public sectors to accelerate development and social progress. He also stressed the importance of transforming current leadership and will into mechanisms that provide predictability for both private and public investments.

Finally, Zegarra also called for preventing crime from infiltrating the economy. “These conditions of high prices, lack of private and public investment, and low institutional strength are perfect conditions for illegal economies, for illegal mining,” he said.
