• The specialist in innovation for sustainability stressed the importance of programs like PERUMIN HUB to expand the concept of innovation.

During Mining Thursday, an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) where the new edition of PERUMIN Hub was presented, Tamiko Hasegawa, planning and innovation manager at Anglo American and member of the PERUMIN Hub Committee, underscored the importance for innovation to have a social perspective.

“Our challenges have to do with the social component and global sustainability challenges. We need to keep expanding the concept of innovation, which goes far beyond technological aspects. To keep expanding the definition of innovation is part of the Hub’s richness and evolution.

She was also optimistic about the great number of young people in the audience at the conference, as this program’s edition will have a section meant precisely for young people and the innovation ideas they are to validate.

“Innovating is a capacity that needs to be built and requires experimentation and practice. Young people put forward ideas and those selected are then given accompaniment. Having more spaces like PERUMIN Hub is very important to keep shaping the innovation that the mining sector so badly needs,” she affirmed.

For that reason, she invited young people to participate in PERUMIN Hub, an open innovation program conducted as part of the PERUMIN Mining Convention and organized by the IIMP and the Peruvian Mining Innovation Hub.

2023 PERUMIN Hub will have two lines of work. The first, ‘Innovaciones que Despegan’ (Innovations that Take Off), will focus on prototypes to be validated in the field and solutions that are yet to commercially take off. The second, the new line of work, ‘Jóvenes que Transforman’ (Young People who Bring About Transformation), will focus on disruptive ideas that seek to meet the challenges of the sector.
