  • Minsur invites young people to participate in PERUMIN Hub in order to share proposals for operational excellence and better socio-environmental performance.

Piero Saravia, digital transformation manager of Minsur, acknowledged that there is a clear specialized talent gap in digitalization and innovation in the mining sector. Therefore, he thinks it is crucial for the industry to become more appealing in order to spark the interest of those eager to learn and create new solutions.

At the launch of PERUMIN Hub during the recent edition of Mining Thursday, an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers, Saravia stressed that the new generations entering the mining sector are digital natives, i.e., people who, from a very early age, got familiar with the new technologies.

He underscored that this collaborative innovation program is inviting young people to share new ideas for the continuous improvement of the mining industry’s operations and area of impact. They will have the chance to get feedback from the companies themselves so that these ideas can be escalated and replicated at a national and international level.

“As these ideas develop and turn into pilots, mining companies like Minsur will want to try them because they know that these ideas were conceived by people who think outside the box and who are able to come up with interesting things. We have had the opportunity to test projects of startups whose leaders are precisely young people who could very well be Peruvian,” he noted.

Crecemos Juntos (Growing Together) Program

Piero Saravia said that the Digital Transformation Management, made up of employees aged 26 in average, have launched a web platform and app called “Crecemos Juntos” (Growing Together), where ordering companies can place orders with local businesses, and payment for those orders is supervised.

“In the past, ordering companies ordered something in particular and then they modified or canceled the order, which resulted in economic loss and affected local businesses. Now, with the new program, orders are saved and payment is verified so that businesses will not experience cash problems and can have a sense of being included by our company,” he noted.

Transforming Minerals into Welfare

On the other hand, he commented that Minsur’s goal is to transform minerals into welfare so as to better the lives not only of its workers and shareholders, but also of the communities, suppliers, natural environment, and everything that surrounds it. They plan to do it by implementing innovative proposals that will help the mining company have a better relationship with its stakeholders.

“Our digital innovation program is aligned with our business strategy, particularly the sustainability pillar. This strategy is divided into several fronts, such as people, communities, safety, and health, among others. So, the projects that come out of this program do not only have an economic but also a social and environmental goal.
