  • Regional Governor of Cajamarca Roger Guevara said that five northern regions have agreed to promote the terminal port of Lambayeque project.

On the third day of Rumbo a PERUMIN – Northern Macroregion Edition, Regional Governor of Cajamarca Roger Guevara stated that five northern regions have agreed to promote the Terminal Port of Lambayeque project, which requires an investment of around US$ 530 million and will enable better transportation for mining projects located in that area, as well as from other important sectors.

“A few days ago, an agreement was reached among five regions, mainly from the north, to promote the terminal port of Lambayeque project. But, to make it viable, we need to arrange for some corridors involving my region,” he said.

Guevara mentioned that they could build a railway from Pacasmayo to Cajamarca. Likewise, they could build a two-way road from the province of San Miguel, where there are four or five mining projects. This way, those operations could get their products to the port and ship them faster. This would also benefit the agricultural and livestock, health, and education sectors.

“I believe our regions will be able to get ahead as long as we deal with the issue of road corridors and, as we mentioned, the railway. This will enable us to cut costs,” he underscored.

On the other hand, he considered that the space created by Rumbo a PERUMIN was very important for fostering dialogue among government authorities, companies, academia, and civil society. He also said that we must set basic development promotion rules that prevail regardless of who is holding the positions of power.

“The work done by one administration is disregarded by the next administration. That is why we need to establish certain criteria with the help of academia, professional associations, and the private sector, and somehow further the territorial development of our regions,” explained Guevara.

In this respect, he commented that in Cajamarca there are about 1,800 dossiers that have been postponed or discarded by one administration after the other, and that each administration opts for doing their own new projects. Yet, in his case, he has resumed the projects of the previous administration for the population’s benefit.

“In my region, although we do not follow the same political line as my predecessor, we have taken into account the projects, we have embraced the 2023 annual investment plan because we understand that, for many projects, investments have been made in profiles, dossiers, and that has cost Peruvians a lot of money,” he said.
