  • A new line of work "Young People who Bring About Transformation" has been added to the "Innovations that Take Off" line of work.
  • This third edition of the open innovation program will respond to challenges in three prioritized areas: environment and sustainability, mining 4.0, and shared value

PERUMIN HUB, the open and collaborative innovation program of the mining sector in the country, presented the challenges of its third edition. These will be the thematic axes to be addressed by the various communities of innovators who seek in this program an opportunity for entrepreneurship. At the same time, the organization announced a line of work aimed at students from universities and technical schools.

"PERUMIN Hub will have two lines of work. The first, 'Innovations that Take Off', will focus on prototypes to be validated in the field and on solutions that have yet to take off commercially. The new line of work, ‘Young People who Bring About Transformation’, will focus on innovative ideas that seek to solve the challenges of the sector," said Rafael Estrada, president of PERUMIN Hub.

This new edition has three thematic areas: "Environment and Sustainability", "Mining 4.0" and "Shared Value". The latter has been included for the first time in the program, in line with trends in the mining industry and the needs expressed by sector specialists involved in the development of PERUMIN Hub.

"Among the challenges we have set, we will pay special attention to solutions that prioritize the implementation of circularity practices, chain operations, water optimization, productivity and efficiency, among others. Likewise, and as part of this new edition, we will focus on solutions aimed at mine closure, territorial development and the use of data and evidence," said Pamela Antonioli, general manager of the Mining Innovation Hub.

LINKAGE WITH MINING COMPANIES

PERUMIN Hub, which promotes a meeting space between innovators and 23 mining companies participating this year, is already in the "matchmaking 1" stage, which will run until March 30.

After that, the "matchmaking 2" process will be carried out so that mining companies can provide feedback on the proposals submitted. Finally, a competition stage will be held from May 11 to June 12, and demo days from August 10 to 14, when the finalists will be chosen.

The winners of this contest will be announced during PERUMIN 36 Mining Convention, between September 25 and 29, 2023. They will receive constant advice throughout 2024, to review the progress of the solution and proposal presented.

"In the case of the line of work of ‘Young People who bring about transformation’, we will have an extensive national tour for the dissemination of this new category. The call for young people will be made between June and July, and then we will publish the pre-selections and define the finalists at PERUMIN 36 in Arequipa. After that, in 2024 we will hold the training boot camp, to carry out our central event in September in which we will choose the winner", Antonioli pointed out.
