  • This is a milestone in Latin America. Job opportunities will be opened for people with functional diversity.

PERUMIN 36 will become the first inclusive mining event in Latin America to integrate people with disabilities into its team of workers, who will support visitors to the most important mining convention in the world to be held in the city of Arequipa.

To this end, PERUMIN partnered with Yapaykuy, a platform for inclusive management and recruitment, which liaised with the Municipal Office of Support for People with Disabilities (OMAPED) of Arequipa and the National Council on Disability (CONADIS), organizations representing more than 151,000 people with disabilities in the southern region.

According to Giannina Honorio, Yapaykuy's director, the application process was well received, achieving the registration of a total of 60 applicants, 15 of whom were preselected and will then undergo a final evaluation to fill the 10 vacancies available for people with disabilities.

Among their duties, the officially selected workers will be in charge of assisting conventioneers and guests, answering questions and providing information related to the event, providing support in case of medical emergencies, assisting exhibitors, assemblers and participants at the venue, and coordinating taxi rides and transportation.

An inclusive leader trained by Yapaykuy will also be present, who will be responsible for the monitoring and welfare of people with disabilities before, during and after the mining convention, helping them with their basic needs and supporting them in travelling from their homes to the event and vice versa.

Likewise, Yapaykuy will previously deliver a workshop on labor inclusion to the PERUMIN 36 personnel for them to learn about the culture of the community of people with disabilities so that they know what to do when faced with their needs, with the purpose of guaranteeing a pleasant and productive coexistence among all the workers.

It should be noted that the ten job positions were assigned for people with slight motor disabilities, partial lack of upper limbs, and persons of short stature. In the case of persons with short stature, a module will be adapted so that they may have a more comfortable ergonomic position when assisting PERUMIN attendees.
