  • Antamina, Cerro Verde, Glencore, Minsur, Newmont, and Grupo México, among other important companies, will be attending the Logistics Meeting.

The PERUMIN 36 Mining Convention will host a new edition of its highly anticipated Logistics Meeting this year, bringing together key players in the logistics field to share experiences and explore new technologies, products, and services that can add value to their respective management efforts.

In an interview with the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers, Enrique Alania, the president of the Logistics Meeting, revealed that this event will feature participation from mining companies, providers, contractors, and organizations like the SNMPE. The meeting will be divided into two segments.

In the first segment, 15 leading mining companies will provide brief overviews of their operations and supply chain management. These insights can serve as valuable strategic and commercial resources for providers.

“This segment will feature managers and directors of Antamina, Anglo American, Buenaventura, Cerro Verde, Chinalco, Condestable, Horizonte, Hudbay, Glencore, Grupo México, Minsur, Newmont, Nexa, Poderosa, and Volcan,” stated Enrique Alania.

ICMM Companies

In the second segment, Cerro Verde, Glencore, and the National Society of Mining, Petroleum, and Energy (SNMPE) will discuss their experience as ICMM members, supply chain due diligence and the role of strategic partners.

Finally, there will be a panel featuring executives from Molycop, Securitas, and Sodexo in their capacity as members of the Committee of SNMPE Providers. Additionally, two keynote conferences on the supply chain and robotics in storage, presented by ICMM and the Sierra Gorda project, will be held,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that the Logistics Meeting has been organized by a committee led by Ángel Espinoza, logistics manager of Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde.

Challenges of Mining Logistics

On the other hand, Enrique Alania claimed that the biggest challenge facing applied mining logistics in Peru is the need for timely attention to mining operations in inhospitable and complex locations, as well as safe transport of inputs, goods, concentrates, and personnel.

“Each company has its own methods of transporting their production to the ports, whether through a slurry pipeline, by train or by truck. Nevertheless, we must strive to find the most efficient means for production to reach the ports and, subsequently, access the largest markets in the world,” he added.

PERUMIN 36 is an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers, scheduled to take place from September 25 to 29 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa. This event will be attended by over 65,000 visitors, including students, professionals, and investors from around the world.
