The government of President Dina Boluarte aims to unlock thirteen major mining projects in the country this year.

In this regard, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Oscar Vera Gargurevich, stated that to date, they have succeeded in unlocking nine projects, including the Toromocho Expansion (Junín), Antamina Replacement (Áncash), Inmaculada Replacement (Ayacucho), Zafranal (Arequipa), San Gabriel (Moquegua), Río Seco Copper Plant (Lima), Yumpag (Pasco), and Retamas Expansion. These projects represent an investment of more than US$6.7 billion.

It is worth noting that 58% of these projects are related to copper production, 28% are gold deposits, and 14% are related to silver.

Among the major projects that have not yet been consolidated is the Tía María mining project, located in the province of Islay, Arequipa, with an investment of US$1.4 billion. In this regard, the minister pointed out that "the government wants (Tía María) to go ahead because it will generate investment and jobs. However, "it is the people who must give the green light" for the project to proceed.

Vera participated in the inauguration of EXTEMIN, the largest mining exhibition in the country. This event was as part of PERUMIN 36, which began today at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa.

In this context, he emphasized the government's commitment to provide "greater encouragement to mining investments." They are developing strategies to continue to unlock important projects, give the green light to new investments, and maintain the sustainability of existing ones, "promoting responsible investment in harmony with surrounding communities."

He highlighted that "Peru stands strong thanks to mining," and therefore, they will continue to work on removing bureaucratic obstacles to promote more investment and solidify the country’s position as a mining sector powerhouse. "Mining is the engine of Peru's development," he reiterated.
