Volcan Mining Company reported that it has signed agreements with 20 community enterprises in the areas of influence of its operations.
Ronald Castillo, Logistics Manager of the company, said during his participation in Perumin that to date they have signed 80 agreements for an amount of US$33 million and benefiting 1,200 people.
The community enterprises were created within the 39 communities in the mining company's areas of influence. They offer heavy equipment rental services for earthmoving in tailings areas and civil works. "Their activities are not linked to the production or exploitation of ore. They receive technical assistance from the mining company," according to Volcan's manager.
The company has been promoting this strategy to get closer to the communities for 15 years. It first signed agreements with three companies, and today, 20 companies have become suppliers.
Volcan mining operations are located in the central highlands of Peru. Its operating units are Yauli, Chungar, Alpamarca, Cerro de Pasco, and the Oxide Plant. They have 10,930 workers, of which 7,360 are contractors and 3,570 are direct employees.
