During the inauguration of Rumbo a PERUMIN – Central Peru Edition, Miguel Cardozo underscored the favorable impact of mining on the regions of Ayacucho, Huancavelica, and Ica, which translates into poverty reduction, formal and well-paid jobs, optimal basic services, better education and health infrastructure, and commercial integration.

“The opportunity to materialize prosperity across the regions and the nation, as well as to bring back social and economic growth indexes, is in front of us, and it’s mining, which accounts for 10% of the GDP, 60% of the exports, 13% of the private investment, and 10% of the tax revenue, among other outstanding figures,” he stated.

The president of PERUMIN 36 also noted that mining accounts for 20%, 18%, and 14% of the GDPs of Ayacucho, Huancavelica, and Ica, respectively, and that it is necessary that this activity increase its share of the regional economy in order to contribute to the reduction of poverty, which is at 41%, 36%, and 7%, respectively.

“Dialogue, concertation, and responsibility is what must prevail at all times to make viable those proposals that will lead us to a better economic, environmental, social, and governmental future—not only when it comes to Ayacucho, Huancavelica, and Ica, which are the focus of this meeting, but to the entire country—with feasible objectives,” he pointed out.

In this context, he stressed that Rumbo a PERUMIN is proposed as the core center of analysis and multi-stakeholder and decentralized debate that brings together the State, entrepreneurship, civil society, academia and communities to discuss the goals achieved and the pending tasks that would lead to the closing of gaps in the country and sustainability of our mining.

Rumbo a PERUMIN – Consensuses for the Progress of Central Peru will focus on the regions of Ayacucho, Huancavelica, and Ica, based on three areas analysis and discussion: mining’s impact and potential in Central Peru, the region’s territorial development and competitiveness, and artisanal and small-scale mining’s reality and impact,” he said.

Finally, Miguel Cardozo congratulated Domingo Drago on being appointed new president of Rumbo a PERUMIN, event which will feature conferences with a macro and micro approach to the national and mining situation, thus paving the way for PERUMIN 36, to be held for the second year in a row in the city of Arequipa.
