Ulises Solis, general manager of Macusani Yellowcake, indicated that in the last year, hydrogeological studies were carried out in 10 drilling wells, near the community of Quelcaya in Puno. These studies have identified high-purity lithium deposits, which will increase the current 4.7 million tons of lithium carbonate.
"We have found more lithium resources that should be published next week," said Ulises Solis during his participation in the Geology and Exploration round table of the Technology, Innovation and Sustainability Forum.
He also commented that the processing of permits "is too difficult" for exploration programs, discouraging the search for new mineral deposits.
Mr. Solis recalled that in 2018, they found the Falchani lithium deposit, which has an investment cost of US$880 million and is expected to start operations in the last quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027.
"We had explored only uranium projects, but in 2018, we entered the Falchani project where we found the lithium deposit and not uranium. The values range between 3000 and 3500 parts per million," said the representative of American Lithium.
During his presentation, he also indicated that the semi-detailed Environmental Impact Study of the project will be presented between today and tomorrow, in order to get the number of tons of lithium carbonate to proven reserves.
