During the closing ceremony of PERUMIN 36, Miguel Cardozo, referring to the slogan "Investment that generates welfare and sustainable development," said, "During the conferences and panels, we have learned about the significant investment plans that all the formal mining companies have in our country.”
He stated that the Mining Summit allowed for discussions on topics such as water management, energy transition, territorial development, and also highlighted the portfolio of projects to promote development and increase copper production. He also highlighted the need to work with the government to continue creating opportunities for Peru in the short term.
“Peru has a significant opportunity in copper because this metal represents more than 50% of mining exports, and because the implementation of mining projects, in which copper accounts for 70% of the investment, has the potential to double the current production of this metal. Copper is in high demand due to the energy transition process," he argued.
Furthermore, he said that the International Meeting reaffirmed the importance of mineral resources and their better utilization for sustainable development through the creation of successful management models in countries with a rich mining tradition and global trends towards new metals, as well as good territorial development practices.
On another note, he highlighted that the TIS Forum allowed professionals to learn about new concepts and applications to achieve better performance in the mining sector. Participants had the opportunity to win the National Mining Award, which was previously given to a technological development focused on increasing copper metallurgical recovery.
He also noted that EXTEMIN showcased all the technological advances, new products, and equipment used in Peru and around the world to enhance operations. This year, it attracted 65,000 visitors, reflecting not only the commercial spirit of the fair but also the great interest of professionals and the general public in learning about the advancements in the mining industry.
Regarding PERUMIN Inspira, he mentioned that during the week, the efforts of the 10 finalists were recognized as they develop their projects in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The commitment is evident, and they will continue to support these initiatives as long as such opportunities are in sight.
Finally, in relation to PERUMIN Hub, he emphasized that this program recognized the work of innovators who provide solutions to the major challenges facing the mining industry. It allows the mining sector to position itself as a community of innovation, guiding innovators to facilitate their growth, consolidation, and commercial takeoff.
