• The award speech was given by Tomás Gonzáles, director of the IIMP. The Minister of Culture, Leslie Urteaga, participated in the award ceremony.

The Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers, in alliance with the Universidad Católica Santa María of Arequipa, presented the National School Mining Award at PERUMIN 36.

This 2023 the recognition had four categories: Short Story, Theater, Scale Model and Social and Environmental Responsibility in Action. With the objective of promoting interest and knowledge in the development of Peruvian mining activity, the call for entries received 368 works from 22 departments of Peru in Quechua and Spanish.

"This initiative seeks to encourage the research and creativity of schoolchildren to disseminate the relevance of the mining sector and its contributions to the economic and social development of the country's future," said Tomás Gonzáles during the awards ceremony.

Each team consisted of a student, an advisor, and the educational institution.

The prizes consisted of smart TVs for the schools hosting the children, as well as laptops, notebooks and tablets for the students and their teacher advisors for the first, second and third places in each category, respectively.

The Minister of Culture, Leslie Urteaga, presented the trophies to the winners and thanked the space for her sector at PERUMIN 36: "They are allowing us to talk about development: Culture is development."

In the Short Story category, aimed at students from 1st to 3rd grade of primary school, the winners are:

●      3rd place: Brandon Rosas, IEP N° 70665 – Tiracoma – Puno

●      2nd place: Fabiana Alvarado, 40038 Jorge Basadre Grohmann – Arequipa

●      1st place: Edwin Félix, I.E 55006 Belén de Osma y Pardo - Apurímac

In the Theater category, aimed at students from 1st to 3rd high school, the winners are:

●      3rd place: Víctor Pescio, Alexander Von Humboldt – Tacna

●      2nd place: Nayeli Gallardo, 82722 El Tingo, Hualgayoc – Cajamarca

●      1st place: Ian Huanca, 40091 – Alma Mater de Congata - Arequipa

In the Scale Model category, aimed at students from 4th to 6th grade of primary school, the winners are: 

●      3rd place: María Valdivieso, C.E Celbos – Lambayeque

●      2nd place: Antonella Marín, AIAPAEC – La Libertad

●      1st place: Álex Zamora, I.E Parroquial San Gabriel – Apurímac

In the Social and Environmental Responsibility in Action category, aimed at 4th and 5th high school students, the winners are:

●      3rd place: Luciana Palacios, Peruano Italiana Domingo Savio – Arequipa

●      2nd place: Jhunsang Ricapa, Colegio Nacional Simón Bolívar – Pasco

●      1st place: María del Carpio, Colegio Particular Mixto Santa Clara - Arequipa
