Diego de la Barra: Dassault Systemes Aims at Becoming the Primary Software Provider for Latin American Mining

In light of its presentation at PERUMIN 36, Dassault Systèmes, a software developer for the design, simulation, and manufacturing of 3D products, showcases the benefits of its flagship platform, 3DExperience, for the development of sustainable and profitable mining companies, with a primary focus on geology, planning, and operations. Diego de la Barra, Mining Sales Expert, provides further details.

What are Dassault Systemes’ expectations for PERUMIN 36?

For Dassault Systèmes, PERUMIN is a crucial event as it allows us to showcase all the innovations our company is working on and to establish numerous connections due to the high turnout at this event.

What portfolio of innovations will you present at the mining convention?

Our company has been working for several years to incorporate techniques used in other industries, such as aerospace, into mining processes. To achieve this, we have developed a new generation of tools that improve equipment performance, enhance work quality, and ultimately add value to the processes related to technical services and mining operations. All of these are based on the collaborative platform 3DEXPERIENCE and the use of Digital Twin.

How important is the mining sector for the company's business?

The mining sector represents a highly significant part of our company's efforts to develop new tools because we believe that this industry is facing, and will continue to face, significant challenges in the coming years, such as sustainability, declining ore grades, rising costs, and productivity losses. These challenges will drive increased investment in technology to regain competitiveness, a process that other industries like automotive are already undergoing with the assistance of our company. We are bringing this experience to the mining industry.

How does Dassault Systemes contribute to the mining industry’s productivity and sustainability?

Just as we mentioned in the previous point, we can bring all our experience and knowledge from other industries that have faced similar challenges, supplemented by our many years of presence in the mining industry. This enables us to create practical applications with an immediate impact on value generation.

How much do you expect sales and production to grow in the mining market?

Our expectation is to establish ourselves as the primary software tools provider for the mining industry in Latin America.

What are the new projects, innovations, or studies you are preparing for the mining industry?

We are actively participating in the leading mining companies in Latin America, working on projects that drive significant productivity increases and ensure sustainability through cost savings, improved outcomes, and minimized environmental impact.

We are highlighting areas such as geology with Machine Learning and implicit modeling, planning with advanced optimizers for both long and medium-term strategies, parametric design for open-pit and underground mining, and operational areas with mine operation management systems, among others. All of this takes place within a collaborative environment based on simulation, digital platforms, and virtual twins.
