The event called “Evolution of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Issues in Mining” has been announced as part of the program of activities of Rumbo a PERUMIN. The event will take place from June 13 to 15 with the objective of analyzing and discussing critical issues for the mining industry that have an impact at the national level, such as diversity and inclusion, climate change, governance in the mining sector and human rights.

The event, organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers and the PERUMIN 36 Organizing Committee, will be attended by representatives of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and civil society organizations such as Propuesta Ciudadana, Sociedad Nacional de Mineria, Petroleo y Energia (SNMPE) [the National Association of Mining, Petroleum and Energy], WIM Peru, and the Australia Peru Chamber of Commerce. Specialists from leading mining companies such as BHP (Chile), Anglo American, UNACEM and Cerro Verde, as well as consulting firms, academics and national and regional authorities will also take part in this event.

The president of Rumbo a PERUMIN, Domingo Drago, highlighted the importance of the mining sector promoting a work agenda that engages diverse stakeholders of society in the analysis of ESG policies, which are currently essential for the development of productive activities and in which Peruvian mining is a management model. “As an industry, we are open to listen to different points of view regarding social, environmental and corporate governance matters, and we have successful experiences to share and convey to other sectors of society. Likewise, these are key aspects in the country's mining investment portfolio,” Domingo Drago stated.

The event, which is free of charge, will be held remotely on Tuesday, June 13 and Wednesday, June 14, and in hybrid format on Thursday, June 15. For the latter session, the on-site event will be held at the facilities of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), in the district of La Molina. All sessions will also be live-streamed through the social media platforms of PERUMIN 36 and the IIMP.

He stressed that Peru is developing a modern and responsible mining industry and that it is necessary to strengthen mechanisms so that this industry continues to create development opportunities for society.

It should be noted that the agenda of activities of Rumbo a PERUMIN is developed as a run-up to PERUMIN 36, entitled: “Investment that generates welfare and sustainable development.” The leading mining convention in Peru and the world will be held from September 25 to 29 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa.
