Lima, OCTOBER 6 2023 Quechua Surpassed English as the Second Most Listened-to Language in PERUMIN 36

  • The Mining Summit and TIS Forum presentations were tuned in by professors and students from 19 universities and 3 institutes across the country.

In order to reach the largest number of people in Peru and the world, the Organizing Committee of PERUMIN 36 announced that the presentations would be broadcast in three languages, meaning they would be simultaneously translated into Spanish, English, and Quechua during the five days of the event held in Arequipa.

As a result, out of the 20,464 people who accessed the PERUMIN website and app to follow the keynote speeches and roundtable discussions, it was revealed that 2,439 tuned in to the presentations in Quechua, making it the second most-listened-to language and highlighting the inclusive approach of the mining convention.

It was even noted that Quechua surpassed the most widely used language in the world, English, which had 987 listeners. Although, for obvious reasons, it ranked below Spanish, which was chosen by 17,038 listeners, confirming its importance in connecting with people from different parts of our country.

“Once again, PERUMIN 36 transcended language barriers by broadcasting the Mining Summit and TIS Forum presentations in Spanish, English and, for the second year in a row, Quechua, confirming the linguistic richness and international status of the mining event," said its president, Miguel Cardozo.

Seen in 19 Universities

On another note, it is worth noting that the Mining Summit and TIS Forum presentations were viewed by students from 19 universities and 3 institutes across the country, thanks to the free and early access provided to higher education institutions, allowing them to follow PERUMIN live.

It is also important to note that during the week of the event, the PERUMIN 36 website and minisite were visited by 47,921 users, exceeding the previous edition by 2% (47,512), with the highest number of users on Monday (13,506) and Tuesday (12,284), according to official statistics.

Finally, it was highlighted that the PERUMIN newsletters sent electronically from November 2022 to September 2023 were read by 465,000 people, proving their importance in disseminating the latest news in the mining sector at the national and global levels.

"We continue to invest in the improvement of our information channels on the web platform and social networks, with the aim of keeping our congress participants and guests up to date on the topics addressed during the activities of PERUMIN 36 and Rumbo a PERUMIN," concluded the General Manager of IIMP, Carlos Diez Canseco.
