Lima, SEPTEMBER 14 2023 PERUMIN Hub: Over Fifty Innovative Ideas Will Be Presented during the Mining Convention

  • The line of work called “Innovaciones que despegan” (Innovations that take off) will include 15 solution ideas, while “Jóvenes que transforman” (Young people who bring about transformation) will include 40.

This year, PERUMIN Hub, the country's leading mining innovation program, has developed two lines of work: “Innovations that take off” and “Young people who bring about transformation.” In both cases, the best innovative ideas have been selected to be presented at the PERUMIN 36 Mining Convention, to be held from September 25 to 29 in Arequipa.

“We are very pleased with the progress made this year and look forward to sharing it with the entire PERUMIN audience. Our new line of work, “Young people who bring about transformation,” has been well received by students, and we have high expectations for what they can achieve. Undoubtedly, all participating innovators are contributing significantly to their professional growth and their connection with the mining sector," said Rafael Estrada, President of PERUMIN Hub.

Innovations that Take Off

Born from the alliance between the Peruvian Mining Innovation Hub and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers, this program features the “Innovations that take off” line of work for the third consecutive year. This initiative focuses on connecting innovators with professionals from leading mining companies to validate and improve their innovative solutions.

In this edition, they received 100 applications and have chosen 15 national and international finalists for the following three categories: Innovations to Be Validated, Successful Innovations, and Innovative Collaborative Models.

These finalists will present their projects in the afternoons from September 26 to 28 in the Hermanos Ticlavilca room at PERUMIN. Additionally, they will participate in the modules of PERUMIN Hub, located in the Projects Pavilion of the EXTEMIN fair.

The ideas presented will be evaluated by expert judges who are leaders within the mining sector. They will select three winning projects, one for each category. These projects will be recognized at the event's closing ceremony.

Young People who Bring about Transformation

On the other hand, this is the first time the “Young people who bring about transformation” line of work has been implemented. It is aimed at students and recent graduates from both technical schools and universities who have innovative solution ideas to address the mining industry's major challenges.

In total, 70 innovative ideas were submitted, 30 of which have been shortlisted in the national category and 10 in the international category to be showcased at PERUMIN 36. Promotion will take place at the PERUMIN Hub modules, located in the Projects Pavilion, where the audience will be provided with a QR code to access a platform displaying a summary of the proposal and an informative video. Here, they can also vote for the most innovative idea, giving extra points to the authors of the solutions.

After evaluation, the finalists who will be part of an immersive innovation program (bootcamp) to be held in 2024 will be announced on Thursday, September 28. During the bootcamp, participants will receive tools to help them solidify their innovative idea and develop a plan for its execution.

This line of work will conclude its activities in September of the next year, with an in-person event where the finalists will present their solutions to key representatives of the mining sector. A monetary prize of US$ 5,000 per category will be awarded to support the implementation of their validation plan.

It is worth mentioning that this line of work is made possible through the collaboration of MinSus from GIZ, the program of the German Cooperation.
