Arequipa, DECEMBER 7 2023 PERUMIN Thanked Arequipa for Hosting Its 36th Edition

Representatives of the Mining Convention also condemned the criminal acts that took place in Pataz.

PERUMIN held a cocktail to thank the authorities, institutions, and companies that contributed to the development of its 36th edition in Arequipa.

The event began with a minute of silence for the victims of the attack in Pataz perpetrated by criminals linked to illegal mining. During the event, the Government was urged to take action against this illicit activity that has spread in various parts of the country.

In addition, Miguel Cardozo, president of PERUMIN 36, emphasized the sincere gratitude of the Organizing Committee for the support provided for the success of the event.

"I want to express my gratitude and reiterate that Arequipa and PERUMIN are making history worldwide. I am delighted to return to this city. Both the Committee and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers cannot pass up the opportunity to recognize all those people and institutions in Arequipa that have supported and allowed their city to host the event," stated Cardozo.

Julia Torreblanca, member of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that at the PERUMIN 36 Mining Summit, the panorama, and challenges to face illegal and informal mining were analyzed and, in line with this, she called on the authorities to implement actions to solve this problem.

She also added that working together to tackle informality in the country is one of the five axes of the commitment signed within the framework of the Mining Convention.

"In this sense, I would also like to highlight the statement signed in the framework of PERUMIN 36, in which more than 20 companies and associations of the Peruvian mining sector committed to work hand in hand with the State to consolidate a path towards the sustainable development of Peru," Torreblanca said.
