The 36th edition of the PERUMIN Mining Convention featured the participation of 406 speakers and panelists in its six main programs: Mining Summit, TIS Forum, International Meeting, Logistics Meeting, PERUMIN Hub, and PERUMIN Inspira.
The event included prominent leaders from the global mining sector, government authorities, investors, researchers, and a number of high-level academics, 20% of whom were women.
This figure represents a modest yet noteworthy rise in female speaker participation for this event, now established as an international benchmark. In this edition, there were 81 female speakers. This means a 15% increase compared to the previous edition, which featured 69 women.
Additionally, 23% of the speakers came from foreign countries, reaffirming the event’s extensive global reach once again.
"The participation of women as moderators, speakers, panelists and attendees is very important to us as we are committed to diversity and inclusiveness, and we want to strengthen the conditions that allow for a greater presence of women in the mining industry," said Miguel Cardozo, president of PERUMIN 36.
In line with this, the Mining Summit included conferences dedicated to diversity and inclusiveness. This segment was moderated by Karina Zevallos, president of the WIM Peru association, and featured six guests who analyzed and identified gaps and opportunities for gender equity in the Peruvian mining and energy sector.
The organizers of this event hope that the participation of women will continue to increase in future editions, as they enrich the dialogue with their experience and provide a modern perspective on the opportunities of the sector.
It is worth mentioning that in terms of participation, PERUMIN 36 brought together more than 65,000 visitors from 56 countries and 23 regions of Peru. Among them, the female presence represented 20% of the total.
In addition to the six main conference programs mentioned above, this edition also hosted the “Canada, Partner Country” forum, the “Mining of the Future” forum, three Business Luncheons, the Technological Mining Exhibition - EXTEMIN, 78 Commercial Talks, 30 Networking Meetings, more than 5,000 visitors to the Virtual Mine, and other activities.
