Parents stressed the importance of instilling reading in children and were grateful for the gift of two books.
The presentation and narration of the storybook "The Earth and its Minerals" took place in the Blanca Varela auditorium of the Ricardo Palma Book Fair in Lima.
"This book came about as of the National School Mining Award competition held at PERUMIN, a convention organized by our Institute. The 90 stories that comprise it have been written by elementary school children from more than 15 regions of the country, who were part of the contest,” explained Carlos Diez Canseco, general manager of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
The director of the School of Mining Engineering of the Universidad Católica de San María (UCSM), an institution that supports the development of the school contest, Patricia López Casaperalta considers that bringing mining closer to the new generations through art and creativity, as in the case of the children's stories, is relevant.
After listening to the representatives of the organizing entities of the activity, the storyteller Alexis Valverde narrated four stories from the book and kept everyone entertained from beginning to end.
At the end of the narration, two books were gifted to the children who were most attentive and answered questions about the stories. Little Kaela and Isabela won a book each and, accompanied by their mothers, expressed their sincere thanks.
"The activity was enthralling. I think this should always be done. Encouraging the habit of reading from a very young age is very important. In my opinion, the best gift for a child is a book. It instills the love for reading and develops their imagination", said Karina Lopez, Kaela's mother.
“The Earth and Its Minerals" was presented at the Cajamarca Book Fair and the Hay Festival Arequipa. Now, at the Ricardo Palma Book Fair, it continues its journey to showcase mining educationally.
