The Breca Group spends US$1 billion annually on the procurement of goods and services for its operations in Peru, and 92% of that total is allocated to domestic suppliers.
During the Logistics Meeting at PERUMIN 36, Ricardo Andujar, logistics manager of Minsur, highlighted the work carried out by the Breca Mining Division, which includes the mining companies Minsur, Taboca, Raura and Marcobre, for the benefit of national suppliers.
In this regard, Andujar stated that this division of the Breca Group allocates US$1.3 billion annually to the purchase of goods and services, with US$1 billion specifically designated for its operations in Peru. Notably, 92% of these purchases are made through national suppliers.
He also mentioned that they work with 328 SMEs and are committed to working with communities, to the extent that in the Raura mining unit, 100% of the concentrate is transported by community-owned companies.
“You cannot imagine how proud we feel when people try to take over the mine and the community we work with every day comes out to defend us. Thanks to their participation, an invasion of our mine was avoided," he said, referring to the residents of Antauta (Puno) and the San Rafael unit of Minsur.
The logistics manager of Minsur also commented on the procurement of goods and services, noting that it would often be easier and cheaper to source from China. However, there are families that depend on the company and the Peruvian industry.
Therefore, he considered it very important how and whom they select, considering that mining is a support line for national companies.
"Peru exported US$65.8 billion by 2022, 73% of which are traditional products and 27% non-traditional products. In both, there is a mining component. That is, last year, 59% was the result of mining, and this year, as of June, BCR figures show that it is 65%," he emphasized regarding the contribution of mining to the national economy and our country's development.
It is worth mentioning that in 2018, Minsur became the first Peruvian mining company to be admitted to the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM). Its membership in this institution reflects the high standards it adheres to in terms of sustainability and its commitment to improving the safety, environmental and social performance of the mining industry.
