Lima, OCTOBER 26 2023 Minera Chinalco Underscored Contact with New Suppliers and Contractors during PERUMIN 36

  • In the first half of 2023, 95% of Chinalco's purchases were made from local companies, and 2% from communal enterprises.

In a conversation with the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), Julio Cisneros, superintendent of purchases and contracts at Chinalco, highlighted the active participation of the company in the PERUMIN 36 Mining Convention. He stated that the entire team was present and was able to strengthen ties with current suppliers while exploring new alternatives for the procurement of goods and services.

Although PERUMIN 36 took place in September of this year, and it is still early for the company to determine tangible results, Cisneros mentioned that they are in negotiations with some new suppliers. Furthermore, he affirmed that the 2022 edition of the event has already yielded positive results in strengthening relationships with company suppliers.

“After PERUMIN 35, we did engage with some new suppliers, and most importantly, it gave us the opportunity to reconnect with the global leadership of our current suppliers. We met with some top international executives of our most relevant suppliers. Commitments were made, and professional relationships were strengthened," stated Cisneros.

Some of the new suppliers that we started working with after the 2022 Mining Convention include Heavy Solutions, Mercurio Convertir Belt, Martin Industries, and Tumy Robots, the latter of which is about to conduct some tests in the mine.

It is worth noting that, according to Julio Cisneros, the Chinese company operating the Toromocho mining unit in the Morococha district, Junín, highly values working with all types of suppliers as long as it allows them to obtain goods and services at the best value in terms of price, quality, and delivery times.

He also recalled the company’s focus on supporting the development of local suppliers, pointing out that 95% of purchases made between January and July 2023 have been from local companies, and 2% from communal enterprises.

“Like in any mining company, our environmental impact assessment stated that all unskilled labor must come from the areas of influence, and we also have a strategy to develop these suppliers," he explained.

For instance, he mentioned that they have suppliers for various tasks related to the plant, as well as for lodging, laundry services, etc. “The idea is to boost the economy for the benefit of the companies in the communities, the companies in Morococha and Yauli, among other communities in the area of influence,” he pointed out.
