Arequipa, SEPTEMBER 12 2023 More than 2500 Schoolchildren will visit PERUMIN's Virtual Mine

  • The organization has invited more than 50 schools in Arequipa to participate in a 3D tour and meet the first Quechua-speaking robot.

It is estimated that more than 2,500 elementary and high school students will visit PERUMIN Mining Convention, which will be held between September 25 and 29 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa.

The organization has invited more than 50 Arequipa schools so that they can have the opportunity to live the PERUMIN experience and immerse themselves in the world of mining through a tour of the modern Virtual Mine, which this year brings many novelties.

"Thanks to 3D technology, schoolchildren will learn about the different stages of the mining process, as well as the importance of mining for the country's future and for the fight against climate change," said Carlos Diez Canseco, general manager of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers.

Visitors to the Virtual Mine will not only be able to take virtual tours with simulators and augmented reality glasses but also meet Kipi, the first Quechua-speaking robot, who will teach attendees about mining in a playful and didactic way.

Most of the schools that will visit the virtual mine have participated this year in PERUMIN's National School Mining Award Contest, an initiative that seeks to encourage research and creativity of our schoolchildren, with the interest of disseminating the relevance of the mining sector.

This edition includes the exhibition of the scale models of the winners of the National School Mining Award, as well as a display of minerals and state-of-the-art equipment used in modern mining.

Some of these schools that will be present are: Institución Educativa Emblemática Independencia Americana, I.E. N° 41008 "Manuel Muñoz Najar", Pio XII - Circa, Gran Unidad Escolar Mariano Melgar Valdivieso, Colegio de Alto Rendimiento-Arequipa, and I.E. 40029 Ludwig Van Beethoven, among others.

This year, the Virtual Mine is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Mineral Museum Andres del Castillo and partner companies that have provided their resources. In addition, it will have the support of young volunteers who are part of PERUMIN's Young Leaders program.
