As part of the series of commercial conferences at PERUMIN 36, Félix Zanabria, a technical advisor of the Llacuabamba peasant community—an organization dedicated to gold mining from ancestral times to the present in the Parcoy district, province of Pataz, La Libertad region—delivered a presentation.
He said that Llacuabamba is the first peasant community to conduct formal mining operations and have them certified to ISO 9001, going from artisanal producers to small-scale producers in 2022. Now they are focusing on the digital transformation of the organization with the SICOM software.
“The SICOM business management system enabled the integration of areas such as mineral marketing, human resources, explosives shipping and procurement, providing Llacuabamba with benefits such as increased efficiency and productivity, error reduction, validation of weight variations and assurance of fair payment," he detailed.
He also emphasized that Llacuabamba has optimized its business model mainly by standardizing critical processes in the value chain, such as mineral trading, environmental management, procurement and explosives distribution. It is currently standardizing its occupational health and safety management.
“The standardization of critical processes in Llacuabamba was carried out through internal and external training, courses on interpretation of standards, training for managers and department heads, strengthening of the organizational culture, development of a communications plan, implementation of policies and procedures, and audits," he asserted.
Regarding socio-economic development measures, Félix Zanabria explained that Llacuabamba has entrusted engineering, construction, and transportation services to the communal company Ecosermin. The goal is to ensure that the economic benefits resulting from mining exploitation are shared with all residents of the area, not just a portion.
He also highlighted Llacuabamba's achievements in the field of health, with the expansion of a medical center and the installation of a water purification plant; in education, with the construction of an emblematic school and the hiring of teachers; and in infrastructure, with the construction of the main square, the civic center, and a stadium.
“Llacuabamba provides access to decent employment for professionals from the community. That is why 95% of the skilled workforce in our mining operations comes from the area. They have jobs as long as they fit the job profile, and if not, we train them. That is our commitment," he emphasized.
