The PERUMIN 36 Mining Convention will bring together the main representatives of the world's largest mining companies, such as Anglo American, BHP Minerals Americas, Collahuasi Copper Mine, Glencore, and Teck Resources, from September 25 to 29 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in the city of Arequipa. During this event, the challenges and trends facing the current mining industry, both in the country and worldwide, will be analyzed.
Decarbonization, climate change, human rights, relationships with local communities, diversity, and inclusion are just a few of the main topics that will be addressed during the Mining Summit at PERUMIN 36. With the presence of these personalities, the Mining Convention promises to be a space for reflection and debate where new strategies will be outlined, and innovative solutions will be shared to drive the sustainable future of mining.
Among the guests will be Ruben Fernandes, CEO of Base Metals at Anglo American Plc London, a multinational company headquartered in the United Kingdom and operating in 15 countries. Fernandes, who leads Peru's first digital mine, Quellaveco, will share his insights into the impact of technology on the mining industry and the role of digitization in efficiency and sustainability.
Carlos Ávila, President of Non-Operated Assets for BHP Minerals Americas (a company formed by the merger of Australia's Broken Hill Proprietary and the UK's Billiton), will also join this distinguished group of leaders to share his vision on the importance of collaborative work with communities and corporate social responsibility in modern mining.
Another prominent participant will be Jorge Gómez, CEO of Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi SCM, one of the leading copper producers worldwide and the second largest in Chile. With his experience in managing one of the largest copper deposits on the planet, Gómez will share practices and his vision regarding responsible and sustainable mineral extraction.
Also notable is the presence of Harry "Red" Conger, President and COO of Teck Resources, one of Canada's largest mining companies. Conger, who has also served as President and COO - Americas for Freeport McMoRan, will share his perspective on the global business, analyzing its challenges and opportunities with a focus on the Americas.
The Mining Summit will also feature Abraham Chahuan, Copper and Zinc Head Assets South America for Glencore Americas, a company recognized worldwide for its role in the production and marketing of over 60 raw materials. Chahuan is also the President of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), the organizer of PERUMIN 36.
It is worth noting that PERUMIN 36 has the slogan "Investment that generates welfare and sustainable development" and aims to bring together representatives from mining companies, investors, mining workers and technicians, academics, national and regional authorities, representatives of civil organizations and multilateral institutions, students, among others, in a broad space for dialogue.
