Lima, JUNE 14 2023 Julio Velarde, the Minister of Economy, and the Minister of Energy and Mines confirmed their attendance at PERUMIN 36

Miguel Cardozo, president of PERUMIN 36, announced that the leading Mining Convention in Latin America and the world will be attended by Julio Velarde, president of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR); Oscar Vera, Minister of Energy and Mines; and Alex Contreras, Minister of Economy and Finance.

In an interview with RPP, he indicated that these authorities have confirmed their participation in the event to be held in September 25 - 29 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa. Authorities from other countries and representatives of international organizations specialized in environmental, social and governance issues related to the mining sector will also be present.

"For this edition we have many programs. The Mining Summit addresses corporate and political-mining issues. It will include a forum of global CEOs, international mining companies, and also local companies at a later time. We will also have a mining economic forum, where Julio Velarde, Waldo Mendoza, the Minister of Economy, and the Minister of Energy and Mines, among others, are going to be present,"

Another aspect that Cardozo highlighted as fundamental and that will be discussed at the Mining Summit is territorial development, a proposal that would have a greater and favorable impact on the sustainable development of population, as well as on better communication, and conflict prevention.

"Mining social conflicts have evolved in a negative way in general. In recent years, we have had mine invasions and long road blockades that affect the whole logistics of mining companies. Las Bambas is the most concerning case, in 2022 they barely produced 250 thousand tons of fine copper, which means 200 thousand tons less than their capacity", she said.

The president of PERUMIN 36 added that this should not happen because it affects the whole country as it generates less taxes, less canon, royalties and income for the regions.

In this connection, in order to deepen the analysis of the various issues involved in the Peruvian mining industry and to make concrete proposals for improvement, he encouraged the audience to attend PERUMIN 36th Mining Convention.
