In order to make a greater impact on the transition to a carbon-neutral economy, ENGIE has committed to reaching Net Zero carbon by 2045. To meet this objective ENGIE Energía Perú has adopted a sound climate strategy, addressing the challenge of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in line with Peru's climate commitments and its applicable regulatory framework.
ENGIE Energía Perú is committed to the energy transition towards renewable sources and the reduction of its environmental impact. To achieve this, it has implemented a strategy based on three pillars: accompanying its customers and suppliers in their energy transition, promoting the generation of clean energy and decarbonizing its own operations.
One of the specific actions taken by the company has been to put the Intipampa solar plant into commercial operation in 2018 and the Punta Lomitas wind power plant, currently under construction. These plants avoid the emission of more than 230,000 tons of CO2eq per year and allow their customers to use energy from renewable sources. In addition to these plants, the company has hydroelectric power plants that allow it to sell energy with green certification.
To date, it has a pipeline of around 1,200 MW of renewable energy, which allows it to avoid around 300,000 Tn of CO2eq each year. In line with its strategy, the company withdrew the Ilo1 and Ilo21 thermoelectric power plants from commercial operation in 2019 and 2022, respectively, which has led to a reduction of 1,580,000 Tn of CO2eq per year.
In addition, ENGIE Energía Perú promotes innovation and development of clean energies, such as green hydrogen, and supports SDG 13 through environmental education projects such as the Green Educational Bus: The Magic of Electricity.
