In an interview at Nativa TV's show “Conéctate con Mayra Álvarez”, Carlos Diez Canseco, General Manager of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers and member of the PERUMIN 36 Organizing Committee, stated that “the Peruvian mining sector's acquisitions are estimated at 10 billion dollars.”
Similarly, he emphasized that mining is a major activity, which places Peru among the seven main mining producers in the world, accounting for 9% of the world's copper reserves, 6% of the world's gold reserves, 18% of the world's silver reserves and 8% of the world's zinc reserves.
He also underscored that the formal mining companies operating in the country develop their activities with technical rigor and social-environmental awareness of their surroundings, such as Cerro Verde, which developed a project called the Virtuous Circle of Water that recovered 1.2 billion cubic meters of water to be used by the population.
The IIMP representative highlighted that this year a delegation of community entrepreneurs, who provide goods and services to mining companies, will arrive at PERUMIN to share their successful experiences with their current partners and seek to build new business relationships.
Cultural presence at PERUMIN
Furthermore, in a conversation on Willax TV's “Noche de Luna” show, Carlos Diez Canseco emphasized that PERUMIN is the image of the mining industry and sparks enthusiasm at the local and international level, as it not only showcases the industry's technical expertise, but also its contribution to the territorial development of the main mining regions.
He also stated that the opening of the Mining Convention will feature a performance by 150 children and teenagers from Sinfonía por el Perú, an orchestra led by tenor Juan Diego Flores, as well as the participation of the National Folklore Ensemble, which will delight visitors with traditional dances and artistic performances from every region.
“And we will not only showcase mining, we will also bring Peruvian culture, because we are the image of Peru to the world. And that means that we have to show our way of expressing ourselves. In this regard, all the conferences will be translated into Spanish, English and Quechua and will be broadcasted in many universities in the country,” he affirmed.
