A month before the start of PERUMIN 36, Carlos Diez Canseco, the general manager of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers, discussed the importance of the mining activity as a driving force for other economic sectors and its huge capacity to generate productive chains in the various regions where it operates.
“Mining activity is not exclusive to miners; it has a strong connection with the rest of the economy. It is estimated that, while the mining sector makes up 10% of the total GDP, an additional 4% is contributed by this sector to the economy through other industries or services such as connectivity, engineering, equipment, etc. Therefore, mining activity encompasses nearly all activities,” he stated on RPP.
Diez Canseco pointed out that this driving force for development generated by the mining industry in the country’s economy has an impact at a regional level. This is why PERUMIN, an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers, is decentralized and held in Arequipa.
He said that mining production in our country primarily occurs in the regions. “Mining activity is 100% decentralized. As I have mentioned before, not a single pound of copper is produced in Lima. One hundred percent of the mining production of gold, lead, silver, and zinc takes place in the regions. This should be highlighted,” he remarked.
The PERUMIN 36 Mining Convention is scheduled to be held from September 25 to 29 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa. It will bring together national and international investors, government authorities, entrepreneurs, professionals, and students linked to the mining sector.
Diez Canseco took advantage of the opportunity to congratulate the city of Arequipa, on behave of the IIMP and the national mining sector, for its 483rd anniversary, and invited everyone to participate in PERUMIN 36.
Strategic Alliances
Diez Canseco also emphasized that, similar to the various activities organized by the IIMP, PERUMIN is an event that offsets its carbon footprint. To achieve this, it has strategic allies like LATAM Airlines.
“LATAM is a strategic ally of PERUMIN. We share many values. Just like all the events organized by the Institute, PERUMIN offsets its carbon footprint. That is a characteristic that it shares with LATAM, which also offsets its carbon footprint. So, we have many things in common, and we enjoy the support of LATAM,” he stated.
Thanks to this alliance, the possibility of offering carbon-neutral flights to event attendees is being coordinated.
