Lima, MAY 15 2023 Antapaccay contracts local services for more than S/ 1.47 billion in the last 10 years

  • The mining company increases its level of spending every year as part of its local supplier development model in the province of Espinar.

Compañía Minera Antapaccay is working on a local supplier development model to improve its current and potential competitiveness, which positively impacts its operations and the economy of the province of Espinar in Cusco. Thus, during the last 10 years, it contracted local services for more than S/. 1.47 billion, with an upward trend every year.

"When we started, local companies only attended to simple requirements and complex services were provided by companies from Lima or Arequipa," said Giancarlo Pisfil, Antapaccay's regional strategic supply and local procurement manager. "In 2013 we started the program of homologation, training and development of local suppliers which allowed their services to be incorporated in areas such as plant maintenance, processes, mine, etc.," he added.

In 10 years, Antapaccay went from 42 local contractors (2013) to 129 (2022) thanks to the support and knowledge transfer provided. During this time, Antapaccay has conducted more than 120 training workshops reaching more than 1,000 participants, including executives and officials of local and community companies.

Antapaccay will continue to contribute to banish the still existing perception within the mining sector that local suppliers do not perform as well as a national supplier. To date, more than 100 local suppliers are participating and winning bids over companies from Lima and Arequipa.

This year, the mining company has proposed to prepare the first Espinar business directory oriented to the mining industry, with which it will promote the application of some suppliers to bids in Glencore operations in Chile and Argentina.
