The Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) and the Executive Committee of PERUMIN 35 will host from September 20 to 24 the central event of Heading to PERUMIN - Bicentennial Edition “Competitive and sustainable proposals for the development of Peru”. This is the first virtual event of international scope on Peruvian mining, through which the extractive industry will present proposals to promote its development and enhance its impact on the welfare of the population.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Iván Merino, has confirmed his participation in the event and it is also expected that the Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, will be present. Likewise, the invitation has been extended to the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo for his participation in the closing of the event. The conferences will be freely accessible to the public through www.perumin.com and through the PERUMIN and IIMP social networks. They will include presentations and discussion panels on the issues that are on the national agenda, such as long-term mining policy, taxation, development of new mining projects and their impact on the regions, sustainability and the mining value chain, among others.

“Heading to PERUMIN - Bicentennial Edition provides us with a space for analysis and open debate on mining, which also brings together various actors involved with the development of Peru. In the year of our national bicentennial, which also marks the beginning of a new government, it is important to seek consensus on the role that mining should play for the sustainable development of the country, and even more so in the scenario of the economic and social crisis generated by the pandemic” said Miguel Cardozo, president of Heading to PERUMIN.

International guests and virtual fair

The event will feature the participation of prominent professionals and specialists from the academic field, as well as representatives of international organizations such as the Mining Council of Australia, Mining Association of Canada, International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), World Bank, CEPLAN, Cooperation International Finance (IFC) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Likewise, leaders and representatives of the main mining companies in Peru and the world will participate, such as AngloAmerican, BHP, Freeport, MMG, Southern Copper and Newmont. They will share global success stories on sustainability and competitiveness in mining.

Heading to PERUMIN - Bicentennial Edition will also present a virtual fair with the participation of public and private mining organizations. Through a state-of-the-art interactive platform, they will present the sustainable development practices they implement in their respective fields.

“The central event of Heading to PERUMIN - Bicentennial Edition is an additional endeavor to promote awareness of mining, adapted to the pandemic situation. We thank all the organizations and people who have committed to its development and we invite the general public to connect to our broadcasts ”, said Victor Gobitz, engineer and president of the IIMP.
