Lima, MAY 10 2022 PERUMIN Inspira: A call for projects of innovation and social entrepreneurship in high Andean regions

  • The program recognizes social change initiatives and contributes to their development through financial incentives and technical assistance.

PERUMIN Inspira, the most important award given by the mining industry to social startups that add to the sustainable development of communities located in high Andean regions, launched a call for its third edition. The finalist projects will have the chance to be presented through the platforms of PERUMIN 35th Mining Convention, where the winning project will also be announced.

This award is sponsored by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) in alliance with the International Potato Center (CIP) - One CGIAR and managed by Kunan. Its aim is to identify active startups that are pursuing six of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations: end of poverty; zero hunger; good health and well-being; clean water and sanitation; decent work and economic growth, and climate action.

PERUMIN Inspira seeks to help these startups consolidate as agents of social change in their intervention zones. To this end, it has developed a professional and specialized assistance program for finalist entrepreneurs. In addition, it offers a financial incentive or seed capital to the winning project, thanks to Poderosa mining company; technical and legal accompaniment by UCSP Kaman Business Incubator and Ontier Law Firm respectively; as well as promotion, articulation, and dissemination.

“Having sustainable startups that help close gaps in our country is of paramount importance. This award hopes not only to give visibility to these projects and entrepreneurs, but also to highlight the value of their work, which is beneficial for both the environment and the population,” commented Jimena Sologuren, president of PERUMIN Inspira.

On the other hand, Cinthia Varela, executive director of Kunan, said that “initiatives like PERUMIN Inspira enable us to identify, give visibility, and showcase impactful startups: social startups that are transforming the lives of many Peruvians across the different regions of the country. By co-sponsoring this award, along with IIMP and CIP – ONE CGIAR, we show the power of articulation, which is so crucial to push forward, in a collaborative way, projects that foster sustainable development in Peru.”
