Arequipa, JULY 6 2022 Luis Caballero: PERUMIN 35 will promote tourism and will bring in US$30 million to Arequipa’s economy

At the official launch of PERUMIN 35 at the Cerro Juli Convention Center, Luis Caballero, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Arequipa, highlighted the impact of the most important mining convention in Latin America on the economic recovery of the southern department.

“During the week of PERUMIN, to be held from September 26 to 30, we expect the visit of 10,000 domestic and foreign tourists, which means an infusion of US$ 30 million for Arequipa. In these times of crisis, it is a blessing to have this world-class mining event,” he stated.

He also recalled that the 34th edition influenced the increase in the number of domestic flights to 35 new trips, which accounted for 16% of the total number of additional flights in 2019. He was, therefore, optimistic that the 35th edition will help top these records, given the high expectations.

Moreover, he highlighted the fact that the mining industry accounts for 33% of the gross domestic product of the department, and 90% of its total exports; as well as the fact that it creates 28,000 direct jobs, which results in the creation of more than 224,000 indirect jobs by multiplicative impact.

“We are proud to host PERUMIN’s 35th edition. This shows that we can hold large scale events in first-class facilities and with competitive local people who are committed to the development of their region,” underscored Luis Caballero.

It is worth noting that PERUMIN 35 will have a great variety of activities which attendees to the mining convention will be able to enjoy. Of these activities, the Mining Summit is the most relevant one, as it is a space where the topics that set the agenda of the national and global mining industry will be addressed.

Visitors to the convention will also be able to attend the International Meeting; the Technology, Innovation, and Sustainability Forum (TIS Forum); the Technological and Mining Exhibition Fair (EXTEMIN); PERUMIN Hub; and PERUMIN Inspira.

The PERUMIN Mining Convention has managed to position Peru as a meeting point for international delegations, government authorities, company representatives, mining professionals and technicians, and scholars to discuss major issues relating mining.
