Cummins Peru has more than 102 years of experience in the sale of engines, generators, original spare parts, PPEs, lubricants, batteries, filtration and coolants, and maintenance services for engines and generators.

In a presentation at the online event Heading to PERUMIN, Andree Curt, head of Application Engineering at Distribuidora Cummins Peru, highlighted that the company’s energy products in greatest demand by the mining sector are generators, automatic transfer boards, master control boards, paralleling boards and remote monitoring systems that allow monitoring and control of all equipment from anywhere in the world.

He commented that the main strength of the generator sets is that the engine, generator and alternator are designed and manufactured by Cummins itself, as well as the turbocharger, filters and coolants, which favors the immediate installation, start-up and commissioning of the equipment, in addition to facilitating after-sales activities.

"The most recognized Cummins generator sets in mining are the C450D6 (QSX15 engine and 450 kW rated power), the C900D6 (QST30 engine and 900 kW) and the C200D6 (QSK60 engine and 2000 kW). What distinguishes these units is their effective net power at high altitudes and excellent efficiency in diesel fuel consumption", he said.

Projects in large mining

To complement the intervention, Rider Fernández, Head of Generation Services, revealed that Cummins' most recent projects for large-scale mining are in Moquegua, where 110 generators have been operating together with the preventive and corrective maintenance service for the company’s generators and other brands.

"In the province of Ilo, we have installed PC500 monitoring equipment to modernize the control modules of the 1250 kW generator sets. And we have also been in charge of preventive maintenance services, overhauls and half-lives of the generator sets at the Cerro Corona mine in Cajamarca", he explained.

He also emphasized that it is important for Cummins to be close to its customers' operations. For this reason, they have implemented 6 maintenance and repair workshops with 158 technicians to guarantee coverage in the north, center and south of Peru.

Engine repair center

Juan Amable, head of MRC Production, stressed that today the company has a Master Repair Center for high-power mining engines.

"Our job is to give value to our customers through a manufacturing process that meets world standards, transforming an engine that has completed its work cycle (20,000 hours of operation) to a remanufactured engine with 0 hours of operation", he said.

This facility has a total area of 4,400 m2, of which 2,000 m2 are designated for the repair area and another 2,000 m2 for an external storage area.

Quality of repaired engines

Finally, Cecilia Salazar, Quality Assurance coordinator, said that the repair of high-power engines complies with quality standards in each process.

"The quality controls takes place in the engine assembly process and then in the testing process where a similarity of the operation is made. Engine performance approval is given by our Product Support audit area. After passing the test, the engine returns in optimal conditions to our clients' facilities", he said.
