Lima, APRIL 22 2022 Claudia Cooper: PERUMIN will be the first mining event with zero carbon footprint in Latin America

The 35th edition of PERUMIN Mining Convention, which will take place from the 26th to the 30th of September in Arequipa, will meet rigorously the new global environmental responsibility standards, indicated the President of the Organizing Committee of this event, Economist Claudia Cooper.

During the first hybrid edition of Mining Thursday, the also Vice President of Sustainability and External Affairs of Antamina pointed out that this great mining event will be the first of its type with zero carbon footprint in Latin America, which will contribute to reducing the impact on the environment.

“With the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers and the Organizing Committee of PERUMIN, we are coordinating with the leaders of central programs to have an environmentally sustainable event to its fullest extent”, she commented.

Along that line, she explained that the Mining Convention will also be the space for the presentation of an agenda on energy matters and new forms of power supply based on renewable and ecological sources.

She added that traditional spaces will be taken up again, such as the Mining Summit, for the discussion about opportunities and challenges of Peruvian mining; the TIS Forum for the exchange of knowledge and technical training; and EXTEMIN, the technological and mining exhibition.

“Simultaneously, we will carry out programs to recognize undertakings that have a positive impact on the communities and the mining sector, through PERUMIN Inspira and PERUMIN Hub, respectively, in alliance with leading institutions such as Kunan and the Mining Innovation Hub”, she added.

Claudia Cooper also underscored that PERUMIN 35 will offer biosafety guarantees to comply with the current regulations, safeguarding observation of the allowed capacity and the ventilation, disinfection and distancing measures, as well as the verification of the negative Covid tests.

In turn, she mentioned that the Mining Convention is a commercial driving force for Arequipa, boosting aspects such as tourism, gastronomy, transportation services, hotel occupation and other sectors so negatively impacted by the effects of the pandemic.

“After two years of distancing between us, we have this first and new opportunity to show that from our place in mining we can keep on building a greater Peru. We need your support, your commitment and your cooperation for that”, she underscored.

PERUMIN will take place in the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa, from the 26th to the 30th of September. We expect to convene more than 60,000 participants, 1,400 stands, 400 suppliers, and more than 500 technical works.
