Cajamarca, FEBRUARY 11 2022 Cajamarca contributes 21% of the gold production in Peru

According to the Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM for its acronym in Spanish) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the accumulated metallic mining production evidenced a significant recovery at the end of 2021, in the 8 principal metals: copper (+6.9%) gold (+9.7%) zinc (+14.8%) silver (+21.5%) tin (+30.7%) lead (+9.3%) iron (+36.6%) and molybdenum (+6.1%). Furthermore, the metallic mining production of silver (+1.2%) tin (+5.8%), and molybdenum (+9.1%) reported increases as compared to the 2020 production levels.

In this regard, Cajamarca was the second region of the country with the highest contribution in total gold production, with 21%, after La Libertad, which leads the list with a participation of 31.5%; this is the consequence of improved results in gold production by Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A. (+15.3%) and Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. (+15.6%). However, the production had a negative inter-annual variation of 5.4% at December 2021.

With regard to mining owners, Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A. continued as the main precious metal producing company in the country, with a 9.6% participation, followed by Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. and Minera Aurífera Retamas S.A., in second and third position, with a contribution of 8.5% and 6.9%, respectively.

Rumbo a PERUMIN Cajamarca

As part of its activities, the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru and the Organizing Committee of PERUMIN 35  will hold a decentralized Rumbo a PERUMIN, which this time will focus on the mining region of Cajamarca and will take place during the 16th and 17th of February.

Under the slogan “Consensus for the progress of Cajamarca”, this new edition will be a space for analysis and debate to address the present of mining in Cajamarca, the opportunities of the sector for the communities and the challenges for the socio-economic development of the region.

The event will work out a program of technical and commercial conferences, which will also be transmitted through its official channels in Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/PeruminOficial) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/c/Perumin) so that they are available to the general public.
