PERUMIN HUBMINING INNOVATION IN PERU

CHALLENGESOPPORTUNITIES TO BE SOLVED THROUGH INNOVATION

In our first 2021 edition, important partners from the sector joined efforts to prioritize, based on their studies and technical backgroud, three thematic áreas that pose important challenges or opportunities to address through innovation. Likewise, the main mining companies in the country came together to identify the main common challenges in these three thematic áreas.

In this second edition, not onlu common challenges among minning companies are presented, but also shared challenges with key players in the sector. These challenges are the result of a reflective process that begins with the collaborative work of managers and, added to an organizational culture of innovation prometed within minning companies and key organizations in the sector such as the State and the Academy, has allowed the identification and characterization of the main challenges making them available to the different innovation groups for the search for solutions in community.

CHALLENGESTHEMATIC AREAS

Environment & Sustainability

The main challenge in expanding the mining activity lies in the level of sustainability that can be achieved. This is essentially based on the efficient use of natural resources, as well as their environmental footprint.

As a result of the absence of environmental awareness and regulations, the Peru from the past has left us with more than 8,000 mining environmental liabilities (mostly without identifiable responsible parties), of which only about 1,000 are in the process of remediation.

Know The Challenges

Water Resources

For the second consecutive year, the social license to operate in mining is considered the greatest risk faced by this industry worldwide and within this risk, the management of water resources is the second most influential factor.

In Peru, although mining uses only 1.5% of available water, it represents more than 65% of authorized industrial wastewater discharges.

Know The Challenges

Mining 4.0

The fourth industrial revolution is already an urgent challenge in the mining sector and given the current situation, it is even more urgent. Technologies such as Internet of things, Artificial Intelligence, virtual reality, robotization, Cloud, Big Data, cybersecurity, 3D printing, among others; they are applicable to each of the stages of the mining business, from exploration to operations closure. Its applicability not only increases productivity, but also contributes to better environmental and social performance.
