The senior partner at Grupo Estrategia says that another challenge for young people is to engage peers from other disciplines in the mining sector.

Felipe Valencia Dongo, economist and senior partner at Grupo Estrategia, emphasized that the today’s generation of young people engaged in mining bears a responsibility for the planet's future. He shared this perspective as a panelist during the latest Jueves Minero session entitled "Conclusions of PERUMIN Jóvenes: Leaders of Change for Sustainable Mining."

Valencia Dongo pointed out that while it is undeniable that the demand for copper will multiply by 2050 due to the energy transition and climate change, the challenge for today's youth is to address this issue by unlocking mining projects.

"Peruvian youth bears responsibility for the planet's future, and this isn’t just romantic or a dream. It’s a reality, and therefore, an opportunity," he remarked.

He also noted that another challenge for future generations is to integrate professionals from other fields into the mining sector to better meet community needs. For example, obtaining social licenses requires the expertise of sociologists, communicators, and lawyers.

In this context, Valencia Dongo highlighted that during his participation as a speaker at the first edition of PERUMIN Jóvenes, he observed how students from disciplines outside of engineering and mining were able to grasp the critical importance of the extractive industry for the country’s development.
