The regional governor mentioned that it is a 16,000-hectare area and that they are also working on a metallurgical mining park in the province of Caravelí.
Lima, October 03, 2024. The regional governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez Sánchez, said that his region will lead the shift in the energy matrix. He mentioned that 16,000 hectares of land have been allocated for a renewable energy industrial park. He made this announcement at the recent launch of PERUMIN 37 in Lima during the Mining Thursday, an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
He also noted that this project would be carried out with private investment to promote clean energy generation. "In addition to this, in Arequipa, we are implementing the largest green hydrogen plant in South America with an investment of US$ 2.5 billion. This will also enable us to supply green hydrogen and all this renewable energy to the mining industry," he said.
The governor also mentioned that they are building the first 400-hectare Metallurgical Mining Park in the district of Chapara, in the province of Caravelí. "This will also allow us to address the issue of technology implementation and solve problems related to illegal or informal gold mining," he added.
Additionally, Sánchez expressed that his administration is also aiming for Peru to be recognized as a port authority. "During the Fifth Regional State Council, it was approved to extend an international invitation to private investors to participate in the Mega Port of the Americas project, the only one on the Pacific, in order to boost the economy," he added.
It is worth noting that the event was attended by Jimena Sologuren, president of PERUMIN 37; Darío Zegarra, president of the IIMP; Rómulo Mucho, Minister of Energy and Mines; and Sabine Bloch, Germany’s ambassador – the Partner Country for PERUMIN 37.
