The Chairman of the Board of Centauro Exploraciones, Ángel Álvarez, informed at the event Consensus for the Progress of Central Peru, within the framework of Rumbo a PERUMIN, Central Peru Edition, about the most important projects and the exploration potential for sustainable growth of the regions located in the central area of the country.

Among the main projects, we have Toromocho, located in the mining district of Morococha, province of Yauli, in Junín.

“Toromocho is an open pit mine, currently in expansion, which will have a concentrator plant that will increase the current production to reach 170,000 tons per day of copper ore”, stated the engineer.

In that regard, Toromocho symbolizes a world-class copper mega project, with an investment of US$ 1,355 million.

Meanwhile, with regard to the exploration potential of the regions of central Peru, Mr. Álvarez refers that epithermal gold deposits and porphyry copper, gold and silver deposits have been found in the mining district of Cerro de Pasco, which have resulted in the Quicay II greenfield project. The project mainly aims at determining the mineralization controls of the porphyry Cu-Au.

The President of proEXPLO 2015 indicated that to date, approximately 66,000 m have been drilled. However, continuing with the exploration with diamond drilling will be decisive to establish the mineral resources.

“In 2018, 4 diamond drill holes were performed with more than 1,000 m each, with a negative inclination, totalizing 4,721 m from level 720 to explore the Cu-Mo porphyry found in the Yauricocha deposit.

He added that the copper, lead, zinc and silver mineralization of the central mine would be associated to the copper and molybdenum porphyry. However, in order to define the project, more geological studies and diamond drilling will be carried out.
